A Lifetime of Healthy Vision

Good vision is more than just seeing 20/20. Your eyes are one the most complex organs in your body and are subject to disease and other conditions that, left untreated, can diminish your vision or lead to blindness.

Your Vision Source Georgia optometrist is a primary eye health care provider with the training and technology to diagnose and treat these conditions before they cause permanent damage.

When Should You Have An Eye Exam?

The first step to long-term healthy vision is a regular eye health examination. The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends a comprehensive eye exam every two years for adults ages 18 to 60, and annual exams for seniors age 61 and old. Adults with a family history of eye disease, those with diabetes or high blood pressure, and anyone wearing contact lenses should have an eye exam every year.

The AOA recommends that children should have their first eye exam at six months of age, another exam at age three and again at the start of school. Risk-free children should then continue to have their eyes examined every two years until age 18. Children with certain risk factors may need to have their eyes examined earlier in life or more often.
Those risk factors include:

Premature birth or low birth rate
Infection of mother during pregnancy
Developmental delays
Turned or crossed eyes
Family history of eye disease
